Devlog - 5: Improvements all around

I've been working on a lot of different areas of the game, making improvements that I wrote down for the future. Well, that future came today.

So, without further ado, let's get started.

Resource harvesters

Until now resource harvesting units never took resources from a deposit. This improvement changed that and now small deposits as seen on the picture below with 10 resource units will be harvested over time.

Resource spawning

One key difference between this and usual strategy games, is that resources are spawned only on your influence grid, with a wide variety of things that influence them. For now:

  • Chance is higher the higher influence is on that tile and its neighbours
  • Can't be spawned in a radius of another resource deposit
  • New addition: can't be spawned in a certain radius of a block or a building

I'll keep adding more and improving upon the existing system, as I have more improvement and ideas of what can be done with them.

Resource art for enemies

Until now, same art was spawned for both the player and the enemies. I've drawn a new picture for the enemy resource deposit.

Block shooter tower

This defensive tower was already in for some time, but now it got its functionality. It shoots at enemy units inside its range.

There's no projectile art for now :)


Ai - building attack

The enemy unit AI that was attacking buildings was only attacking them at, the bottom left corner, their origin. Now I've improved that system and enemies will attack the building at any grid point not just there.

Damage & destroy art for blocks

With the ability to damage and destroy blocks and buildings it was time to start drawing and putting in art for that.

On the image you can see a destroyed block, and the top block is damaged.

I'd say a very productive day with improvements all over the place, small stuff, but very much needed to get the feel and polish right.
